Sail Taihoa!
Since 2020 (with six years as a captain for another charter service on the Bay before the creation of my own business and 14 years of experience working with people with disabilities in the outdoors) I have been taking groups, including students, out on San Francisco Bay aboard the historic and seaworthy vessel, Taihoa. One sail aboard Taihoa while learning about SF Bay and watershed ecology, our endangered marine environment, and environmental conservation, readily builds a vital awareness for all inhabitants of our Bay Area. One such journey can also ignite a student’s interest in a career in conservation and environmental organizations; in marine biology, botany and chemistry; in oceanography, marine mammal protection and ethology; and in natural history, social history and public policy. There is an old saying, “the same key doesn’t unlock every mind.” Taihoa, through the Sails and Science program, has a powerful set of keys to help Bay Area students to find their passions in environmentalism, science and our vital oceans!
